Australia
Electric Vehicle Registration & Tax: Luxury Car Tax
In Australia, fuel efficient vehicles attract less Luxury Car Tax, leading to a saving of up to $3,715. The Luxury Car Tax is levied at 33c on each dollar above a certain threshold. For most cars that threshold is $76,950 in 2023, however for fuel efficient vehicles including the Tesla Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y, that threshold is $89,332.
The Australian Government has introduced a Treasury Laws Amendment Bill which affects the Fringe Benefit Tax for eligible new zero or low emissions vehicles registered on or after 1 July 2022. Electric vehicles with a vehicle subtotal of $89,332 (including GST) or less are eligible for this FBT exemption. To learn more, visit Treasury Laws Amendment (Electric Car Discount) Bill 2022.
ACT
Incentives & Exemptions
New zero emissions vehicles (including electric vehicles) are eligible for a full stamp duty exemption. This applies to a vehicle that is purchased brand-new and has not previously been registered, or a demonstrator disposed of by a licensed vehicle dealer within one year of the date the demonstrator was first registered in the ACT.
New or used zero emissions vehicles purchased or acquired in the ACT from 24 May 2021 and before 30 June 2024 will receive two years of free registration. If eligible, the registration component of vehicle registration fees will be waived. All other relevant fees, charges, or levies related to registering a vehicle will remain.
New or used zero emissions vehicles purchased or acquired in the ACT with a vehicle subtotal of less than $84,916 are eligible for 0% interest rate for up to $15,000 of their vehicle price when financing, as part of the ACT Sustainable Household Scheme. For more information on eligibility, visit ACT Sustainable Household Scheme.

Energy Incentives
Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme
The Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme creates a financial incentive for individuals and small business owners to install eligible small-scale renewable energy systems, including solar panels.*
It does this through the creation of small-scale technology certificates (STCs) based on each system’s expected power generation from the year of installation until 2030 when the scheme ends.
The scheme rewards the individual or small business owner for the renewable energy they’re producing, which reduces their requirement for electricity generated from non-renewable sources.
When you purchase a system from Tesla, you have the option to assign your STCs to Tesla in return for a discount on your system price.**
Home Battery Storage & Solar
Several states and local utility providers offer additional incentives for solar and home battery storage systems such as Powerwall. Incentives and subsides are typically offered by either making a claim after purchase or reflected as a reduction in the price of the purchase with your Tesla Certified Installer.
Below you can find subsidies and rebates currently available in each Australian state and territory.
